Transfer Students and Transfer Courses

Approximately 98.8% of students at the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology start and end their collegiate careers. The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education has the full articulation of basic math, science, English, and humanities courses across the country's college system. Thus, students transferring from other institutes in Egypt are deemed to have had the same core curriculum in these courses as students who started at the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology. Students transferring in must have around a 2.3 cumulative GPA to be admitted into the Nile Higher Institute of Engineering. Transcripts are reviewed by the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology Transfer Services. Transfer course credit under consideration as equivalencies to the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology Specific courses are approved through the Dean of the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology. Department Chairs, and/or faculty members may be consulted on transfer equivalencies regarding major-specific courses. Students requesting transfer credit may be required to provide evidence such as catalogs and course materials to ensure course content and objectives are substantially similar to those at the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology. After approval, the student will meet with their assigned academic advisor to discuss transfer equivalents and a plan for academic success. In all cases, transfer credits are accepted only from colleges/institutes and universities that are at least regionally accredited.

Transfer courses are accepted only on a pass/fail basis with grades of A, B, or C being counted as "Pass". Where appropriate, differences between semester and quarter curricula are accommodated to ensure the proper number of credit hours is awarded. Accepted transfer credits are not included in the student's grade point average calculations.

Below is the step by step transferring policy:

  • The student was enrolled in a university or college/Institute recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • The student should not have been dismissed for disciplinary reasons from the institution he is transferring from.
  • The student should have a minimum GPA of 2.3 out of 4.0 or equivalent.
  • The student's academic standing is not "Probation" at the time of the transfer application.
  • The student has to earn at the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology at least 50% of the credit units required by the program degree.
  • Transfer students may transfer courses taken in their previous institution provided they are deemed equivalent to the corresponding Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology courses. For such equivalence to be granted, three conditions must be satisfied:
  • The two courses are ascertained to be essentially of the same content by the concerned NHIET department or program.
  • The number of credit units of the course at the previous university is at least the same as for the credit units of the NHIET course.
  • The student must have passed the course with a grade of C or better.
  • Transfer courses are listed in the transcript but will not contribute to the student's cumulative GPA at NHIET.
