Program Graduation Requirements and Grading System

A. Graduation Requirements

Academic Counselors from the Office of Student Success meet with every student during fall and spring semesters to review academic progress towards degree completion and provide guidance for courses to be taken in the following semester. The Academic Counselors track degree completion for every student utilizing that student's progress report on Ibn Al-haitham system for students affairs management (http://nile.mans.edu.eg/static/index.html). When the student is in the final semester of coursework for their chosen degree they must then apply for graduation through the online application process provided by the Institute. Once the student applies for graduation the student's Academic Counselor completes a degree check. A degree check includes verifying all degree requirements have been met, running a degree audit, and signing off on the application status. Once an Academic Counselor signs off on the degree check, a second Academic Counselor will review the work. Then each applicant's degree check is sent to their department chair for review. A list of degree applicants is sent to the faculty towards the end of every semester for a faculty vote of approval. Once all parties have signed off on the degree check, a final review will occur upon entry of the final course grades for the student's last semester. If all degree requirements are met the Dean will confer the degree. The degrees granted are Bachelor. Table 1. B. Evaluating Student Performance

Each student is assigned to a professional academic advisor responsible for advising the student on their curriculum requirements and tracking their progress. This progress is tracked electronically on Ibn Al-Haytham student affairs management system (http://nile.mans.edu.eg/static/index.html). which lists the student's degree requirements, the order in which they are advised to complete those requirements, the grades they earned, and the semester in which each requirement was completed. Ibn Al-Haytham system runs a report on the student’s record and indicates which requirements have been met and which ones have not. These two methods allow the Academic advisor to guide the students in the best pathway to success at the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology. In addition, the advising office also monitors student progress through a variety of reports pulled at or near the end of each semester. For example, advisors receive a query listing all students who have not yet enrolled in the coming semester. Advisors can then reach out to those specific students to ask what has prohibited them from registering, and offer support and resources. Advisors also reach out to students who have failed a course in the previous semester, and those who have had a change in academic standing. It is believed that reaching out to the students experiencing these academic issues provides earlier intervention and access to resources, and contributes to increasing retention and graduation rates. Grading System: The following letter grades and grade points are used at CEE in table Table 3 while Table 4. presents a sample of calculating student GPA.
