Each student at the Nile Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology is assigned a professional academic advisor who assists them in registering for classes
every semester. All students must meet with their academic advisor to have their schedule approved and receive the necessary code for online classes. The role of
the academic advisor is to provide guidance on the student's curriculum requirements and monitor their progress. This includes maintaining a record that lists the
student's degree requirements, the recommended order in which they should complete those requirements, the grades they have achieved, and the semester in which
each requirement was fulfilled. The Ibn Al-Haytham system generates a report on the student's record, indicating which requirements have been met and which ones
are still outstanding. If a student's academic performance does not sufficiently improve to meet the academic standing requirements, they may be placed on Academic
Probation, and in subsequent semesters, Academic Suspension may be imposed. Both the student and the academic advisor have access to this grade information before
registering for classes in the following semester. It serves as an early indicator of the student's progress, offering valuable insight before the end-of-semester
final grades are released. These two methods, namely the record report and the grading system, enable the academic advisor to effectively guide the students toward
achieving success at the institute.
Additionally, the advising office actively monitors student progress by generating various reports at the end of each semester. One such report is a query that
provides advisors with a list of students who have not yet enrolled for the upcoming semester. This allows advisors to proactively reach out to these students,
inquire about the reasons behind their registration delay, and offer them support and resources. Moreover, advisors also make an effort to contact students who
have failed a course in the previous semester or experienced a change in their academic standing. The belief is that by reaching out to students facing these
academic challenges, the advising office can intervene earlier, provide access to necessary resources, and ultimately contribute to higher retention and graduation
rates.
The Academic Advising Rules for the AE Program are available on the official website :
An academic advisor in the architecture program offers informal career guidance to students through regular office hours or semester advising sessions. Moreover,
the Nile Higher Institute of Engineering and Technology organizes an annual Student Employment Fair, which encourages all students at every level to participate.
Architecture engineering students are also familiarized with the resources provided by Employment Services during the engineering orientation courses. These
orientation courses not only introduce students to undergraduate research experience (REU) but also provide information about postgraduate programs offered by
various Egyptian universities and guide them on obtaining scholarships. In the past two years, the institute has successfully hosted numerous engineering offices
and companies in the career forum. Additionally, program students have the option to seek professional guidance from faculty members specializing in the field of
architecture. Career advising is facilitated through a customized system, as depicted in Figure 4.
